Auteur d’une thèse sur les représentations de l’Italie dans le théâtre de Shakespeare, Christophe Camard s’intéresse plus généralement aux influences italiennes et à leurs réceptions et représentations dans l’Angleterre élisabéthaine, sur le plan avant tout littéraire, mais aussi culturel et politique. Il a écrit un article sur l’influence de Bandello dans The Duchess of Malfi de John Webster en 2018, un article sur Dante et Shakespeare à paraître en 2020 chez Classiques Garnier, et travaille à la traduction et édition en français de The Devil’s Charter de Barnabe Barnes (1607), tragédie anti-catholique qui met en scène une Italie machiavélique et très largement caricatural.

 

Christophe Camard wrote a PhD dissertation on the representations of Italy in Shakespeare’s drama and is more generally interested in the Italian influences and their receptions in Elizabethan England, mostly from a literary point of view, but also from a cultural and political one. In 2018, he wrote an article on the influence of Bandello in Webster’s Duchess of Malfi. More recently, he wrote an article on Dante and Shakespeare which will be published in 2020 by Classiques Garnier. He is also working on the edition and French translation of Barnabe Barnes’ Devil’s Charter (1607), an anti-Catholic tragedy which stages a Machiavellian and largely caricatural Italy.
