Thomas Constantinesco a rejoint Sorbonne Université en 2021 en qualité de professeur de littérature américaine après avoir enseigné à l’Université de Paris, Oxford et Yale. Il est également membre honoraire junior de l’Institut Universitaire de France et ancien lauréat du programme européen Marie Skłodowska-Curie. Ses recherches portent sur la littérature américaine du XIXe siècle, les relations entre littérature, philosophie et histoire et les humanités médicales. Il est notamment l’auteur de Ralph Waldo Emerson : l’Amérique à l’essai (Éditions Rue d'Ulm, 2012) et de Writing Pain in the Nineteenth-Century United States (Oxford University Press, 2022), ainsi que de plusieurs articles et chapitres d’ouvrage sur les Transcendantalistes, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, Henry James et William James. Il a aussi traduit des œuvres d’Emerson, Melville, James, Washington Irving et Mark Twain en français.

 

Thomas Constantinesco joined Sorbonne University in 2021 as Professor of American Literature, after having taught at Université de Paris, the University of Oxford, and Yale University. He is also an honorary junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France and a former Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow. His research interests lie in the fields of nineteenth-century American literature, literature and philosophy, literature and history, and medical humanities. He is the author of Ralph Waldo Emerson : l’Amérique à l’essai (Éditions Rue d'Ulm, 2012) and Writing Pain in the Nineteenth-Century United States (Oxford University Press, 2022), as well as several essays and book chapters on the Transcendentalists, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, Henry James, and William James. He also translated works by Emerson, Melville, James, Washington Irving, and Mark Twain into French.
