Arrivés de Syrie\, il y a six ans\, ils ont le statut de réfugiés. Dans la maison de campagne de leur ami et professeur à l’Université Paris 1\, Emmanuel\, ils se souviennent de leur vie d’avant\, du voyage et des débuts de leur nouvelle vie en France. Sont-ils toujours ceux qu’ils étaient en Syrie ou se sont-ils réinventés avec l’exil ? \nSara\, Hasan\, Ghaith\, and Khairy are in their twenties and are students in Paris. They arrived from Syria six years ago and have refugee status. In the country house of their friend and professor at Paris 1 University\, Emmanuel\, they recall their lives before exile\, their journey\, and the beginnings of their new life in France. Through speech and song\, the piece incorporates sonic elements of the sea such as waves\, tides\, and surges\, depicting the sea as a passageway\, a grave\, and\, in the context of migration\, a space of exception. \nThe performers vocally explore the experience of ambiguous loss related to lives lost during migration\, assuming the role of an ancient Greek chorus to create a collective voice of mourning. They express an elegy for those lost and presumed dead at sea. Their voices merge and divide\, experimenting with pitch\, intonation\, breath\, pacing\, and silence\, transitioning from operatic singing to theatrical utterances to narrate the realities of this contemporary tragedy. \n(www.freyapowell.com)

DESCRIPTION:Pour la séance inaugurale du cycle « Les Tiers-lieux de la poésie » (« Poetry’s Third Places« )\, nous aurons l’honneur d’accueillir Thierry Paquot\, philosophe de l’urbain\, pour une conférence intitulée « Parler la ville ou dire la poésie urbaine » (résumé et bio ci-dessous)\, le jeudi 18 juin de 17h à 18h30 dans la Salle des thèses du Campus des Cordeliers (15 rue de l’Ecole de Médecine\, Métro odéon). La séance sera suivie d’un verre dans le quartier. \nThierry Paquot\, philosophe et essayiste\, vient de publier : Poésies urbaines. De Baudelaire à Grand Corps Malade (Eterotopia\, 2024) et La Ville est un roman (Eterotopia\, 2026). Il est l’auteur de nombreux ouvrages sur l’urbanisation planétaire\, les utopies et la géohistoire de la pensée écologique. \nParler la ville ou dire la poésie urbaine \n Thierry Paquot \n18/06/2026 \nLa poésie trouve dans les villes plus d’une de ses inspirations et les villes se plaisent à susciter un tel hommage. Nous connaissons tous ces lectures que des poètes\, femmes ou hommes\, effectuent pour diffuser leurs œuvres dans des jardins\, des salons\, des tavernes\, des librairies\, des coins de rue\, des bibliothèques\, des théâtres\, etc. Et ceci depuis bien longtemps\, aussi loin dans le temps que la mémoire humaine peut s’en souvenir…La poésie homérique était récitée par un rhapsode capable d’improviser\, de compléter\, d’enrichir et de respecter l’esprit davantage que le nombre des syllabes. Les troubadours brodaient sur des standards connus de tous\, pour faire rire\, émouvoir ou troubler leur auditoire. Les révolutionnaires poétisaient leurs convictions sans imaginer qu’au bout d’une strophe scintillait la lame de la guillotine…Les ouvriers n’hésitaient pas à parfaire leurs paroles en des airs que tous les camarades reprenaient en chœur. Quant à la Résistance\, et ceci dans tous les pays occupés\, et ceci par toutes les bouches non encore muselées\, les mots prenaient le maquis… La Beat Generation parle la contre-culture\, à haute voix et sème au vent des campus les promesses d’un autre monde à venir. Le rap et le slam mettent leurs pas dans ceux qui le sont précédés sur le chemin de la contestation\, ils zadent ce qu’on ne peut pas encore formuler. \nCe sont ces pistes que Thierry Paquot tentera d’explorer\, mêlant la géohistoire de certaines et certains auteur-e-s à une poétique urbaine qui ne cesse d’épouser les nouvelles modalités de son expression. Cela pourra paraître à des esprits chagrins comme désordonné alors qu’il s’agit d’un rappel à l’ordre\, que Cocteau a si bien saisit. Écoutons Arthur Rimbaud : « Ce n’est qu’au prix d’une ardente patience que nous pourrons conquérir la cité splendide qui donnera la lumière\, la justice et dignité à tous les hommes. Ainsi la poésie n’aura pas chanté en vain. »
