DESCRIPTION:Le prochain séminaire de Modernités 16-18/ShakeS aura lieu le jeudi 4 avril prochain\, de 17 h 30 à 19 h 00 à la Bibliothèque de l’UFR d’études anglophones (esc. Nous aurons le plaisir d’accueillir Lucy Munro (King’s College London) pour une intervention intitulée «  Marlowe\, Lyly and Children’s Performance in Late Elizabethan London ». \nNous espérons vous y retrouver nombreuses et nombreux\, \nBien amicalement\, \nLine (et pour Alexis) \n« Marlowe\, Lyly and Children’s Performance in Late Elizabethan London » \nThis paper offers a reappraisal of the children’s playing companies of late Elizabethan London. It offers new evidence for their management\, their relationships with the choirs of the Chapel Royal and St Paul’s Cathedral\, and how they acquired and maintained their actors\, exploring the implications of this material for how we understand the performance and publication history of plays such as John Lyly’s Galatea and Christopher Marlowe’s Dido\, Queen of Carthage \nLucy Munro is Professor of Shakespeare and Early Modern Literature at King’s College London. She has published three monographs – Childrenofthe Queen’s Revels: A Jacobean Theatre Repertory (Cambridge UP\, 2005)\, Archaic Style in English Literature\, 1590-1674 (Cambridge UP\, 2013)\, and Shakespeare in the Theatre: The King’s Men (Bloomsbury\, 2020) – and is the editor of plays such as Dekker\, Ford\, and Rowley’s The WitchofEdmonton (Bloomsbury\, 2016)\, Massinger’s The Picture\, in The Routledge AnthologyofEarly Modern Drama\, ed. Jeremy Lopez (Routledge\, 2020)\, and Shirley’s The GentlemanofVenice\, in The WorksofJames Shirley\, gen. ed. Eugene Giddens\, Teresa Grant and Barbara Ravelhofer (Oxford UP\, 2021). She is a contributor to two collaborative research projects that bring together archival research and practice-as-research\, Before Shakespeare and Engendering the Stage. Current projects include an edition of King Henry IV\, Part 1 for the Arden Shakespeare fourth series and a book on the cultural histories of early modern playhouses.

DESCRIPTION:« La table dans les littératures et arts du monde anglophone » \n25-26 avril 2024 \nMaison de la recherche\, Sorbonne Université (salle à préciser) \nColloque organisé par l’unité de recherche VALE (Sorbonne Université) \n Organisateurs : Pauline Amy de la Bretèque\, Jaine Chemmachery\, Corentin Jégou\, Alexis Tadié \n———————— \nConférence plénière : Parama Roy (UC Davis) ? Michelle Coghlan (University of Manchester)? \nCe colloque s’intéressera autant aux représentations culinaires dans les littératures et arts du monde anglophone qu’aux approches théoriques et critiques de la question de la table au sens large. Il ouvrira le débat dans des directions à la fois théoriques et pratiques\, dans le prolongement opéré par les food studies dans les années 1990-2000 qui se donnaient pour objet « d’explorer la relation entre l’alimentation et l’expérience humaine à partir d’un large éventail de perspectives en sciences humaines et sociales\, souvent combinées entre elles » (Deutsch\, Miller\, 2009\, 3). Malgré cette ré-orientation\, les études littéraires ont tardé à considérer l’écriture culinaire comme objet littéraire et culturel (Coghlan 2020\, 3). C’est précisément ce retard que nous souhaitons interroger dans le cadre du colloque alors que l’alimentation s’avère un enjeu crucial à penser dans la période de crises\, notamment environnementale\, économique et sanitaire (forte augmentation des cas d’obésité et de diabète aux Etats-Unis\, dépendance alimentaire du Royaume-Uni vis-à-vis des importations européennes)\, que nous traversons et alors que notre époque est obsédée par ce qui tourne autour de la table (blogs de cuisine\, « foodie culture »\, « food porn »\, etc.). \nOn suggérera\, sans prétention d’exhaustivité\, des angles d’approche de cette réflexion sur la table dans les littératures et arts du monde anglophone qui pourront inclure : \n–   Poétiques de la table au sens large dans les littératures et arts du monde anglophone \n–   Ingestion et refus d’ingestion de nourriture\, à table et en dehors \n–   Avant et après la table \n–    Table et exotisme culinaire \n–    Transformations de l’alimentation\, des règles et de la sociabilité autour de la table \n–    Classe\, caste\, et statut social mis en jeu par la table ? \n–    A table : alimentation et pratiques identitaires \n–    Savoirs et écritures culinaires de la table \n–    Politiques de l’alimentation \n–    Addictions et intoxications \nCe colloque vient conclure le séminaire général de VALE consacré à la table dans le monde anglophone (2021-2023). Il donnera lieu à une publication. Les langues du colloque sont l’anglais et le français. Les communications seront d’une durée de 30 minutes. Les propositions de communication (environ 300 mots)\, accompagnées d’une courte bio-bibliographie\, sont à envoyer à l’adresse atable-vale@gmail.com avant le 30 juin 2023. La notification d’acceptation des propositions sera envoyée au plus tard en septembre 2023.
