DESCRIPTION:Le nouveau séminaire de PACT « Surveillance Imaginings » accueillera Jean-Michel Ganteau\, Professeur de littérature britannique l’Université de Montpellier autour de son ouvrage The Poetics and Ethics of Attention in Contemporary British Narrative. London: Routledge\, 2023. \nLa séance aura lieu le 11 mars de 17h à 19h à la Maison de la Recherche (Serpente\, salle 001).\n\nThis book uses attention as a prism through which to interrogate the literary text. It starts from analyses of the changes that the mediasphere and communication technologies have brought for the contemporary subject\, submitting him/her to the tyranny of a new attention economy. My point is that the contemporary novel and memoir resist such influences and evince a great deal of resilience by promoting an “ecology of attention” (Citton) based on poetic options whose pragmatic effect is to develop an ethics of the particularist type. To do this\, I draw on critical and theoretical literature hailing from various fields: psychology\, but also more prominently phenomenology\, political philosophy\, and analytical philosophy (essentially Ordinary Language Philosophy)\, alongside the ethics of care and vulnerability. By using a selection of fictional and non-fictional narratives\, I address such issues as social invisibilities\, climate change\, AI and cognitive disability and end up drafting a poetics of attention.\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:« La résilience en mots et en corps » \nJournée d’étude interdisciplinaire et créative \nSorbonne Université – 20 mars 2024 \n  \nArgumentaire \nCette journée d’études bilingue s’intéresse au concept de résilience\, mot-clé de notre époque s’il en est\, et s’attache à en croiser les définitions à travers plusieurs disciplines scientifiques et artistiques. Son approche méthodologique se veut innovante et propre à stimuler la discussion comme l’expérimentation : des spécialistes de champs très divers sont ainsi invités à présenter\, selon des formats courts\, la façon dont la résilience se définit et s’illustre dans leurs travaux ou leur domaine\, avant de prendre part à des exercices d’improvisation théâtrale guidés par des artistes afin d’explorer l’incarnation du concept et sa résonance dans le corps collectif. La journée se terminera par une lecture de scènes théâtralisée. \nCette journée d’études vise aussi à favoriser la constitution d’un réseau d’échange en se mettant à l’écoute des travaux d’autres disciplines à l’orée d’une recherche au long cours sur la résilience au théâtre. Il ne s’agira pas d’ambitionner une définition unique ou absolue du terme « résilience »\, mais plutôt d’en explorer les ramifications\, les contradictions\, les images et les incarnations. On s’interrogera\, entre autres\, sur la façon dont chaque discipline aborde les éléments ou les questions qui suivent : \n\nLa tension entre l’individuel et le collectif : la résilience peut-elle se définir autrement qu’au sein d’un groupe ?\nL’apport spécifique de la résilience à chaque champ : nouvelle idée ou nouvelle formulation ? L’émergence de la notion correspond-elle à un tournant conceptuel\, à de nouvelles nécessités sociétales\, à une pensée typiquement contemporaine ?\nPeut-on mesurer la résilience ; et si oui\, comment ? Le test de Charpy mesure la résilience de l’acier\, mais comment s’y prend-on lorsqu’il s’agit d’une ville ou d’un individu ?\nQuelles dynamiques l’idée de résilience nous engage-t-elle à visualiser (on peut penser au couple anglais « bounce back/ bounce forward »\, et se demander si on « rebondit » vers l’avant ou vers l’arrière) ?\nAvec quels termes la résilience entre-t-elle en réseau d’écho et d’opposition ? (élasticité\, endurance\, malléabilité\, homéostase\, ductilité\, mais aussi risque ou vulnérabilité… le travail d’improvisation\, dans la lignée des travaux de Jacques Lecoq\, permettra justement de visualiser les différentes connotations de tous ces termes associés ou contrastés)\nComment tracer les contours d’approches rigoureuses de la résilience dans un contexte saturé d’usages médiatiques flous (voire moralisateurs) ? He operates the out-of-print/never-in-print poetry PDF archive Free Trials (www.pxxtry.com)\, where most of his writing is available\, as well as its affiliated blog Reports. A book of essays about UK poetry\, Wound Building\, also available for free on the web\, came out with Punctum in 2021. Some newer essays and texts\, Training Exercises\, will be published by the University of Sussex in 2024.\n\n\n\nLisa Jeschke is a poet and performer living in Munich. Their publications include The Anthology of Poems by Drunk Women (Materials\, 2018) and Anarcho-Boys* vs. Anachro-Cavalry Württemberg (Earthbound\, 2021). They co-run the chapbook press Materials/Materialien\, and make performance work with Lucy Beynon.\nVicky Sparrow is an Assistant Professor in English Literature at the University of Nottingham; she writes poems and lives in London. Her publications include Notes to Selves (Zarf Editions\, 2016) and Stand Ins (RunAmok\, 2023)
