DESCRIPTION:[Scroll down for French version] \nInternational Conference \nSorbonne Université\, Paris \n11-12 December 2020\nSorbonne (online) \n  \nTHE NEW WAVE OF BRITISH WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS \nEXPERIMENTING WITH FORMS \n  \nToday’s British stage resounds with powerfully innovative female voices. The Royal Court 2019 season gives evidence of the growing prominence of these female writers who promote a strikingly poignant dramaturgy\, sometimes inventing radically new forms and sometimes experimenting with conventional ones in fresh and unexpected ways\, as for example when they re-energize naturalism and provide it with new missions. Their plays are always concerned with the necessity to grasp the complexity of the contemporary world and to further investigate what it means to be human. Intimate or epic\, and sometimes both at once\, visionary or closer to everyday life\, these plays approach the contemporary world through a multitude of prisms – historical\, scientific\, political and poetic – and open different and visionary perspectives. \nThis one-day conference will pave the way for a publication whose mission will be\, twenty years after Sarah Kane’s death and while Caryl Churchill is celebrating her 81th birthday\, to affirm the vitality\, the inventiveness and the particularly strong relevance of these new poetics. \nWe will welcome contributions in the shape of 15 minute provocations addressing the theatre of major women playwrights such as debbie tucker green\, Lucy Kirkwood\, Alice Birch\, Laura Wade\, Lucy Prebble\, or Ella Hickson\, all the way to the emerging new voices (as\, for instance\, those of Bola Agbaje\, Lydia Adetunji\, Alia Bano\, or Stella Feehily\, Katherine Soper and Polly Stenham). Avec elles\, ce sont des dramaturgies efficaces\, qui parfois s’attèlent à expérimenter de nouvelles formes soit en revisitant des poétiques déjà fortement codifiées – comme lorsqu’elles réénergisent l’écriture naturaliste pour lui conférer de nouvelles missions –\, soit en inventant des formes toujours nouvelles\, toujours plus à même de cerner la complexité du monde contemporain et de comprendre ce qui\, au fond\, constitue l’humain.
