Cette séance se tiendra le vendredi 14 juin de 17h à 19h à la Maison de la Recherche de la Faculté des Lettres\, Sorbonne Université\, 28 rue Serpente\, 75006 Paris. \nLe Professeur Richard Sha (American University) donnera une conférence intitulée : “Imagination and Science in Romanticism” \nProfessor Richard C. Sha is the author of three books: The Visual and Verbal Sketch in the Age of British Romanticism (Penn 1998)\, Perverse Romanticism: Aesthetics and Sexuality in Britain\, 1750-1850 (Johns Hopkins 2009) and Imagination and Science in Romanticism (Johns Hopkins 2018). The Imagination book won the 2018 Jean-Pierre Barricelli Prize\, given by the International Conference on Romanticism. His new book\, on the emotions and scientific modeling\, features chapters on Baillie\, Goethe\, Hume\, Leopardi\, and Wordsworth. He has won a Fulbright for 2020\, when he will be teaching at the University of Bologna\, and working on his Leopardi Chapter. Together with Joel Faflak\, he is the co-editor of Romanticism and the Emotions (Cambridge UP) and the forthcoming edited collection Romanticism and Consciousness 2.0\, a volume which seeks to update what we know about consciousness and its relation to Romanticism. \nCet événement est ouvert à toutes et tous. He is the author of The Unheard Prayer: Religious Toleration in Shakespeare’s Drama (Brill\, 2012) and has recently edited Prayer and Performance in Early Modern English Literature: Gesture\, Word and Devotion (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press\, 2018). He is currently working on the notion of « ’trust » in early modern literature and drama\, an area that\, though it received little attention within any formal philosophical framework\, was nonetheless of vital concern to the writers and dramatists of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. DESCRIPTION:Le prochain séminaire EARLY MODERN (Axe Modernités 16-18\, Unité de recherche VALE) se tiendra le lundi 18 février 2019\, de 14 h 00 – 16 h 00\, en Salle 421\, à la Maison de la Recherche de la Faculté des Lettres\, Sorbonne Université\, 28 rue Serpente\, 75006 Paris. \nNous aurons le plaisir de recevoir Elisabeth BELMAS (Université Paris XIII) pour une conférence intitulée: \n« Méthodes et perspectives de recherche en histoire du/des jeu/x ». \nElisabeth Belmas est historienne\, professeur émérite à l’Université Paris XIII. Elle travaille d’une part sur l’histoire du jeu dans la société française et en Europe du XVIe au XIXe siècles et d’autre part sur l’histoire de la santé\, des maladies et des politiques de santé dans la France moderne. Elle est l’auteur de l’étude désormais classique: E. Belmas\, Jouer autrefois. Essai sur le jeu dans la France moderne (XVIe-XVIIIe siècle) (2006)\, ainsi que de nombreux articles et chapitres sur le jeu. Ses études les plus récentes sur le sujet sont: « Les échanges ludiques entre la France et l’Espagne\, XVIe-XVIIe siècles »\, in Eric Roulet (dir.)\, Conquistadors\, négriers\, inquisiteurs. Trois figures majeures du monde colonial américain XVIe-XVIIIe siècles\,. Hommages à Bernard Grunberg (2018)\, et « Tricheurs et tricheries au jeu au XVIIIe siècle. La figure du chevalier d’industrie » dans la revue Droits (2017). Dans le domaine de l’histoire de la santé\, elle a récemment co-dirigé deux volumes collectifs: Les soldats du Roi à l’Hôtel des Invalides. Etude d’épidémiologie historique (1670-1791) (2018)\, avec J. Coste\, et L’orchestration de la mort. Les funérailles des temps modernes à l’époque contemporaine (2017)\, avec S. Nonnis-Vigilante.
